21 Days - Day 2

 "Wake Up Sleeper"

Read: Ephesians 5:14 and Matthew 11:28


Taking a nap is something I look forward to but seldom accomplish.  While sleep replenishes the body, too much of it makes one lazy. There is a balance between resting and being a sluggard.  As a teenager, I remember my parents saying very contradicting things to me in the same day:  "Go to bed" and "Get out of that bed".  Sometimes they would say, "Are you going to stay up all night" and "Just how long are you going to sleep?" My parents weren't anti-sleep, they just wanted me to get my rest on a normal schedule.  As a parent of teenagers, I now understand what they were saying.  In Scripture, the Lord tells us to "Wake up" and "Get some rest".  Ephesians 5:14 says, "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you," and Matthew 11:28 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."  Which one is it?  It is both!  We must learn to rest in the Lord, which is growing intimately with God.  We must also wake up out of a spiritual coma void of the responsibility and action to be humble, pray, seek the Lord, fast, read the Word, repent, or anything else spiritually.  It's time to wake up spiritually! It's time to arise oh sleeper! 


Today's Challenge:  In what areas of your life are you spiritually asleep, stagnant, comatose, and lethargic?  Ask the Holy Spirit to revive your relationship with Christ.
